Where else can you see hundreds of building-sized cardboard sculptures burned in a fiery inferno and pyrotechnic blasts of color exploding in the sky? Valencia, Spain comes alive every March to celebrate Las Fallas, a one-of-a-kind UNESCO event. And Valesa can take you behind the scenes!

What is Las Fallas?

The Fallas festival in Valencia is a traditional celebration that combines art, satire, and fire. Historically, this festival began during the Middle Ages when carpenters would burn leftover or broken tools to honor the patron saint of Valencia, St. Joseph. This evolved into the spectacular wooden structures known as fallas. These satirical sculptures built by the community fill the streets along with fireworks and music.

The Special Events

From March 14–19, Valencia becomes a full-body experience. Book a private viewing spot for the Mascletà, a thunderous symphony of controlled explosions that rattles buildings and pulses through your chest. At midnight, see the cascading fireworks of the Nit del Foc with a glass of cava in hand. The festivities conclude on March 19th with the most anticipated event, known as La Cremà, where the fallas masterpieces are set ablaze in the streets!
